In Search of the Empathic Warrior
In Search of the Empathic Warrior
Raziel Perin makes his debut at Working Title with his solo exhibition In Search of the Empathic Warrior. You are very much welcome to join us for the opening. The exhibition opens from 17:00 until 21:00 and runs until the end of December.
In this exhibition, Perin explores how identity, masculinity and spirituality can be approached without reducing oneself, the other, and the complexity we carry.
Perin’s multi-sited research project Vitruvian Man (2025–2026) takes centre stage. Starting with Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic figure of the Vitruvian Man as an ideal of human proportion and perfection, the project investigates masculinity through the experience of Black and mixed-race bodies in Europe. Approaching masculinity as a territory marked by wounds and possibilities for reparation, Raziel seeks guidance from Afro-diasporic forms of knowledge. Over the course of 2025–2026 Raziel has developed Vitruvian Man in collaboration with institutions across Europe, Africa and the USA, such as the Wereld Museum in Amsterdam, Kunst Meran in Italy, Howard University in Washington, D.C. and CORPO in Rotterdam.
Other series presented in the exhibition emerged from this broader investigation into masculinity and the possibilities of the empathic warrior. For example, Gods of Saint Domingue (In Search of the Empathic Warrior) is an ongoing series of charcoal paintings inspired by the books of author and activist C.L.R. James, in which Perin constructs personal and collective mythologies as acts of resistance, transformation and empowerment.
