Josilda da Conceição Gallery presents: Maria van der Togt, Quintus Glerum & Caio Reisewitz
This exhibition brings together three artists who explore constructed realities, suspended moments, and the ways in which perception shapes our understanding of the world.
Caio Reisewitz approaches reality through photography, examining human action and its social and political consequences within architectural and natural environments. His highly refined images emphasize dramatic shapes, colors, and textures, producing dreamlike spaces where the factual nature of photography meets the chimerical.
Quintus Glerum investigates human behavior through a fascination with machines and systems. By mirroring human experience against tools designed for specific purposes, he creates hypothetical situations that question why people act as they do and what it means to be human. His works reflect the circularity of these questions, destabilizing familiar ideas of reality and logic.
Maria van der Togt zooms in on the ordinary with meticulous detail. Her paintings do not document their surroundings so much as hold them, creating scenes that invite the viewer to complete them through imagination. Drawing from architecture, stage, and set design, Van der Togt constructs spaces that feel theatrical without ever being staged. There is no performer, no script, only the suggestion that something is about to happen. Time appears suspended, held in a quiet state of anticipation.
Together, the three practices create a dialogue between the constructed and the observed, the real and the imagined. Their works occupy spaces of uncertainty and anticipation, inviting viewers to look again at familiar realities and consider what might exist just beyond what is immediately visible.
