How do I survive my grudge?
There is a deafening anger inside me. It is not a moral outrage about injustice happening somewhere else in the world, or about climate change, economic inequality, famine, or human rights violations. This anger is about you, about what you said back then, about how much it hurt me, and that I have never forgiven you for it.
The Grudge is an audiovisual emo horror comedy about the temptation of resentment. Some pain feels too small, too childish, or too embarrassing to share. After all, there are much worse things happening, right? So you swallow it. ‘The Grudge’ invites you to wallow and cringe: an exercise in enduring shame, a way of allowing uncomfortable feelings to simply exist.
Cute and awkward, painful silences, traumacore and parasocial relationship issues blend in this one-emo show. Emotionally sponsored by that one thing someone said in 2017.
About the makers
Pensive Vivifier is an anti-disciplinary collective creating work somewhere between live music, performance, video art and club culture. This marks their third appearance at Amsterdam Fringe Festival—audiences may remember them from their Fringe at Best winning performance LOVE IS ABUNDANT (2024).
Since then, the collective has continued to expand its universe. They created the hyperpersonal performance It’s a Feeling, premiered the opera Passion in collaboration with Het Muziek, and have been touring Pensive Vivifier in Concert (also at Fringe this year). Their debut EP LOVE IS ABUNDANT is set for release later this year.
Everything exists within the same Pensive Vivifier cosmos. Performances, concerts, installations and music continuously feed into one another, each project leaving traces in the next. Working with samples, internet culture, humour and electronic music, they transform personal stories about anxiety, family, love and digital life into immersive experiences that invite audiences to dance, laugh, cringe, scream and get lost together.
