Transformation Digital Art is LIMA’s annual international symposium on how digital and media art is documented, passed on and preserved. Since 2016 it has brought together artists, curators, conservators, researchers, museums and universities for two days of talks and discussion at LAB111 in Amsterdam, LIMA’s home.
The eleventh edition, EMBODIED: Knowledge, Experience, and Data, starts from a simple observation: digital art is often treated as immaterial, yet people meet it with their bodies, through movement, presence and space. Borrowing from the idea of intangible heritage, where knowledge lives in practices and skills as much as in objects, the programme asks how such embodied experiences can be documented, and how re-interpretation and re-mediation can keep works alive once their original technology is gone.
LIMA looks after more than 50 Dutch media art collections and distributes over 3,500 works by more than 600 artists; the symposium is where that network of partners meets each year. Speakers and the full programme are still to be announced. A limited batch of early-bird tickets covers both days, lunch included.
