Münster
Münster
MÜNSTER is a dark comedy indie rock opera about a failed actor who becomes a prophet, a king, and a disaster.
Inspired by the true story of the Anabaptist takeover of Münster in 1534, the show follows Jan Bockelson, a failed tailor, bar owner, and performer who finds a new stage in religious radicalism. As the city is besieged, Jan introduces increasingly convenient interpretations of what God wants: obedience, punishment, polygamy, orgies with nuns, and nice clothes for himself.
With live music, satire, and fast ensemble storytelling, MÜNSTER connects the Reformation to today’s influencer culture: a world where authority collapses and truth becomes a matter of interpretation. A new technology – the printing press – makes it possible to spread any stupidity as the word of God.
MÜNSTER asks what happens when wounded ambition disguises itself as justice, and a crowd believes charisma can carry them to heaven.
About the makers
Aryeh Hasfari and Fer Rodil are Amsterdam-based theatre and screen writers, performers, and storytellers.
Hasfari is an Israeli interdisciplinary artist, musician, filmmaker, satirist and performer whose work explores politics, identity, disillusionment, and generational trauma. As the co-founder, vocalist, and guitarist of the electro-rock duo WC, he has been a prominent voice in Israel’s protest music scene. His solo show My Phantom Limb, created for the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, combines political autobiography, songs, video, and personal history to examine his disillusionment with Zionism, belonging, and the emotional cost of ideological rupture.
Rodil is an Argentinian theatre maker, screenwriter, director, performer, and storyteller with roots in the Buenos Aires theatre scene. Based in Amsterdam since 2020, he has writing credits with international platforms including HBO, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. His solo show Fer Is On A Deadline uses comedy, storytelling, and songwriting to confront illness, grief, time, and mortality with sharp humor and emotional honesty.
