And then we watched Khabib fly out of the octagon

The video shows a young man boxing in what appears to be the family garage, while the artist behind the camera, the boxer’s sister, is attempting to shoot scenes for a different purpose. Distracted by the sound of leather gloves striking, she instinctively lets the camera follow until it finds, in the middle of the space, her brother with a freshly buzzed haircut, a white tank top, a silver chain necklace, yellow Jordan shorts, and black-and-red leather Jordan sneakers. Moving from left to right, speeding up, grunting with every punch; a family film.

Oscillating between discipline and obsession, resilience and vulnerability, the work reflects on the repetitive labor through which bodies are conditioned and identities are continuously rehearsed. The boxer becomes less an individual than an embodiment of an ongoing cycle, caught between self-improvement, endurance and entrapment.

The infamous moment when Khabib Nurmagomedov leapt out of the octagon after defeating Conor McGregor intertwines with personal reflections, creating a psychological narrative that runs parallel to the physical act of training. Together, image and text reveal boxing not simply as a sport, but as a space where memory, performance and identity are continuously negotiated.
