Kunstlab + buren

Kunstlab + buren opent de deuren tijdens Groot Rotterdams Atelier Weekend 2026 (locatie 54 op de routekaart, Rotterdam Zuid). De ateliers zijn open op za 19 sep en zo 20 sep van 12.00 tot 18.00 uur. Toegang is gratis met een via GRAW gereserveerd ticket; een vrijwillige bijdrage gaat naar de makers.

The small studio building at Bornerveld 169 in Zuidwijk has been active since 2017 and carries a

special, shared mission. Most of the artists connected to the space engage with the neighborhood and

its residents—young and old—through their practices. Kunstlab+ is the umbrella name for everything

we develop and organize together with children, parents, local residents, guest artists, partners, and

students. We work from the idea of “the studio as a collaborative learning environment,” where we

continuously reflect on and experiment with shared ownership and community building. Every

Saturday, the open studio Kunstlab takes place, where artists and children work side by side.

Since early 2023, a communal garden has been added: the green strip next to the building is being

developed in self-management by artists and neighbors as an extension of the studio under the name

Tuinlab. Here we explore ways of creating connection through art, research, nature, embodied

knowledge, getting our hands dirty, and learning about the origins of food.

Kunstlab and Tuinlab have now become embedded in the fabric of the neighborhood. The building at

Bornerveld is evolving as a collaborative initiative that we shape together.
