Comp-Host-ing our Phones

Comp-Host-ing our Phones

Nowadays, we often hear about the 'cloud' as a way to describe the online services that we access daily, such as emails, social media, data storage, video-streaming, AI chatbots, et cetera. But what does the Internet really look like behind this fog screen?

Starting from our most intimate and familiar device—the smartphone—this workshop aims to explore the material infrastructure that supports our online lives. In practice, you learn how to repurpose discarded smartphones into servers that host a simple webpage. This practice helps you to imagine other ways of building an Internet, one that places autonomy, reuse, and planetary limits at the forefront

The workshop will be led by Marie Verdeil.

Comp-Host-ing our Phones was developed by Marie Verdeil, in collaboration with Rein van der Woerd, and with the support of Creative Coding Utrecht (creativecodingutrecht.nl).
