'Uit de War' – Antoinet Deurloo, Toine Klaassen, Anton Vrede

Antoinet Deurloo Antoinet Deurloo is a Rotterdam-based visual artist working with painting, works on paper, ceramics and installation. Her practice places particular emphasis on the creative process, moving between spontaneity and control, fullness and emptiness. Deurloo developed a technique she calls “painting with porcelain,” using liquid porcelain to create abstracted landscapes with fine lines, organic forms and relief, subsequently adding pigments and oxides. Alongside her ceramic works, she produces paintings and drawings informed by material, movement and the process of making. Toine Klaassen Rotterdam-based artist Toine Klaassen works across installation, performance and participatory projects. Collecting discarded objects and materials from his surroundings is central to his practice; these elements are rearranged, transformed and given new contexts through installations that often continue to develop in front of an audience. His projects combine artistic research, experimentation and performance, frequently treating everyday environments as laboratories. Through his long-running alter ego, the “Dutch Bushman,” Klaassen has also explored alternative ways of living and relating to contemporary society. Anton Vrede Anton Vrede was born in Willemstad, Curaçao, in 1953 and moved to the Netherlands in 1961. He studied at Rotterdam’s Academy of Fine Arts from 1973 to 1977. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture, Vrede is known for figurative imagery in which animals frequently play central roles. His visual repertoire includes references ranging from Bugs Bunny and the Hindu god Ganesha to Dürer’s hare and Rousseau’s lion, creating a distinctive world of recurring animal figures and cultural references.
