15*22*4: Parallel Lines

This year, the Haarlem Platform for Arts 37PK celebrates its 15th anniversary. To mark this milestone, it presents the anniversary exhibition 15224: Parallel Lines, a group exhibition in which hidden worlds and alternative realities play a central role.\n\n~ opening Saturday 4 July 17:00 ~\n\nFrom time immemorial, artists have focused on the visible world around us. They attempt to depict the tangible world in drawings, paintings, and sculptures in order to comprehend, capture, or conjure that reality. For just as long, artists have been fascinated by a world beyond what is visible: a place where the sublime resides and where the meaning of the visible world reveals itself.\n\nThe exhibition 15224: Parallel Lines presents work by seven artists, each attempting in their own way to expose and depict these invisible realities. They offer us alternative worlds, invisible machinations lurking beneath the surface, or highlight the contrasts between the world around us and our inner reality. Like so many Alices, each steps through a looking glass to discover what lies beyond.\n\nThe seven artists were selected from a broad group of artists who participated in 37PK's artist-in-residence programme in recent years. Each previously completed a residency in VOL22 or DOC4, the two guest studios managed by 37PK, followed by a solo or duo presentation in the exhibition space. Featuring Marieke Gelissen, Kimball Gunnar Holth, Federico Murgia, Eva Pel, Jacob Schwartz, Hilke Walraven, Baoyang Zhao. In 15224: Parallel Lines, their seven realities will unfold side by side.\n\nJacob Schwartz is the most recent resident at VOL22. A room-filling installation by him will also be on view in the basement of 37PK, under the title Alternative stable states in perpetual motion.\n\nBoth exhibitions open on 4 July and close festively on 30 August with a celebration of 37PK's 15th anniversary.
