What is Plaarts?

Plaarts helps you find grassroots art exhibitions across the Netherlands: gallery shows, studio openings, artist-run spaces, and everything the guidebooks miss. I built it because good art shouldn't be hard to find.

Is Plaarts free for visitors?

Yes. Plaarts is free for visitors. No ads, no promoted listings, no pay-to-win. Every exhibition gets equal visibility regardless of budget.

Is Plaarts affiliated with a museum or institution?

Accepted Answer

No. Plaarts is independent: no parent organisation, no public funding, no investor. It's a one-person project.

How do you find exhibitions?

I pull listings from galleries, cultural organisations, and art platforms across the Netherlands. Artists and venues can also submit their own exhibitions directly.

How does Plaarts decide what shows I see first?

Accepted Answer

Four factors: urgency (how soon a show ends), freshness (how recently it was added), proximity (how close to you), and engagement (how people are interacting with it). Those are the only inputs. Nobody can pay to rank higher, and the factors are stated openly here rather than hidden in a black box. If a sort feels off, email Bradley.

How do I list my exhibition?

Create an account as an artist or space, then use the submission form to add your details, images, and venue. Every show gets the same visibility. No one can pay for a better position.

Is Plaarts free for artists and galleries to list on?

Accepted Answer

Free during the beta. After beta, listing a show costs €2 per exhibition. There's no premium tier, no upgrade option, and no way to pay to rank higher. The fee keeps spam bots out and helps cover hosting; Plaarts currently runs at a loss, and the €2 chips in toward making that less true. If pricing is a barrier, email Bradley and we'll work something out.

How long until my listing goes live?

Usually within 24 hours. Bradley reviews every listing personally, partly for quality and partly out of genuine curiosity about what is coming up. If you have not heard back in a few days, email bradley@plaarts.app.

Question 9

Can I list a show outside Amsterdam?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Plaarts covers the whole Netherlands. The platform leans Amsterdam-heavy at the moment because that is where Bradley is, but Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Groningen, Haarlem, and smaller cities are all welcome. The more shows from outside Amsterdam, the less Amsterdam-heavy the platform gets.

I don't have a gallery, just my atelier for a weekend. Does that count?

Yes. Open ateliers, atelierroutes, kunstroutes, and one-night shows in someone's living room all belong on Plaarts. The platform isn't only for galleries. It's for any kind of show people can actually walk in to.

How do I promote my exhibition online?

List it on Plaarts so it shows up on the map, in the feed, and possibly in the weekly digest. Beyond that, Instagram still helps, your own mailing list still helps, and tagging the artists and venues involved so they share to their own audiences helps a lot.

Do you take a cut if I sell work through a Plaarts listing?

No. Plaarts is not a sales platform and there is no payment system in it. If a visitor wants to buy something they have seen, they go through the artist or gallery directly. Plaarts does not sit in the middle.

What kind of shows belong on Plaarts?

Accepted Answer

Exhibitions at galleries, artist-run spaces, project spaces, and kunstenaarsinitiatieven. Studio openings and atelierroutes. Group shows in alternative venues. Anything where someone is showing visual art and people can come see it. Plaarts deliberately leaves out major museums and large institutions; the curation policy explains why.

Can I edit my listing after it goes live?

Yes. Once your listing is live you can update the dates, description, photos, and details from your dashboard at any time. If something major changes (the show is cancelled, the venue moves), please update the listing so people are not turning up to a closed door.

Question 15

What happens if my listing is not approved?

Accepted Answer

Bradley will email you with the reason. The most common reason is that the show falls outside Plaarts's curation policy, for example a major museum exhibition or a commercial pop-up that is not really an art show. Sometimes it is just a missing detail and a quick fix puts it through.

Question 16

How do I list a kunstroute or atelierroute with multiple stops?

For now, list each stop as a separate exhibition with the same date range and include the route name in the description. A proper multi-stop listing format is on the roadmap; this is the workaround until then.

Question 17

I know a venue that should be on Plaarts. How do I tell you?

Email me, or use the feedback form. I add new venues by hand: a name, address, and a sentence on what they do is enough to get started.

Question 18

Why isn't there a native app?

Accepted Answer

Plaarts works as a web app you can add to your home screen, which covers most of what a native app would. If a real app starts to make sense, I'll build one.

How do you handle my data?

I collect only what's needed to run Plaarts: no selling data, no third-party ad tracking. You can read exactly what's collected in the privacy policy.
