After Dark | Madison Skriver
Enari Gallery proudly presents After Dark, a solo exhibition by Madison Skriver. The exhibition will open on Friday 11 April at 17:00.
In this new series, the artist explores the tension between nostalgia and reality, inspired by 1950s American culture and cinema. Drawing on influences such as David Lynch, Skriver reveals how the idealized vision of the American Dream often clashes with the less idyllic reality concealed beneath it. Her paintings, characterized by powerful colours, a distinctive use of light, and layered symbolism, evoke a dreamlike atmosphere reflecting an enigmatic past.
Inspired by cinema and television, Skriver creates scenes that feel like fragments of dreams—poised somewhere between memory and myth. Viewed through the lens of time, the past becomes mysterious and elusive, with traces lingering beneath the surface. As with Lynch ontstaat er een spanning tussen schijn en werkelijkheid; her paintings seem to open doorways into an alternate world, in which nostalgia takes on a subtly uncanny undertone.
“We find ourselves in a world that feels both familiar and alienating, suspended between dream and reality. Resembling film stills, the compositions invite the viewer to complete the narrative. Themes of magic and the supernatural naturally lead us toward the more wondrous facets of life.” – Madison Skriver
