ALLE RUIMTE
ALLE RUIMTE
In this duo exhibition, Joost Hutjes and Michiel Kluiters each explore the relationship between space and architecture in their own distinct way. Both artists work with architectural models, but where one employs them as sculpture, the other uses them as sets for photographic imagery. One scales up, the other scales down. The result is an intriguing exhibition in which buildings, spaces, and perspectives continually shift in meaning.**
Although Hutjes and Kluiters start from the same medium—the maquette—two entirely different worlds emerge.
Joost Hutjes creates sculptures where architecture, scale, and imagination converge. His works evoke cities and buildings, yet never refer to a single specific place. At first glance, they appear sleek and almost modernist. On closer inspection, one discovers a world of wood, paint, and seams; precisely these small irregularities and visible traces of craftsmanship give the sculptures their character. They invite the viewer to look closely, wander, and associate.
Michiel Kluiters, by contrast, works inward. He constructs meticulously detailed maquettes, which he then photographs. His images give rise to tranquil interiors, corridors, doorways, and rooms that feel simultaneously familiar and alienating. Only after a moment does the viewer realise that these are not existing spaces, but small-scale constructed worlds.
Alongside ALLE RUIMTE, Moving Gallery presents a survey of work by multimedia artist Ate von Hes in its video spaces. Under the title The Best of Ate, a selection spanning more than thirty years of his video art is on view. Eccentric, experimental, humorous, and at times wonderfully strange work by an artist who explored the possibilities of video as an art form from an early stage.
