Buitenzetten
Buitenzetten
With Buitenzetten, Galerie Larik presents its final exhibition at the Oudegracht. The honor goes to artist Toon Teeken, who has occupied a truly distinct position within Dutch painting for decades. At 5:30 PM, Toon Teeken will open the exhibition himself with a reading of his own text.
Teeken is renowned for his rich, layered visual universe. Where the modern adage often dictates less is more, his work embraces the power of abundance. His vivid, colorful compositions are populated by recurring figures and motifs that continually take on new layers of meaning.
Thoughts, impressions, and memories are never concealed, but brought to the surface. Inner states take shape in color, line, and composition. The works do not illustrate a narrative; rather, they serve as spaces where imagery, associations, and lived experiences converge.
The exhibition features three new series, a sculpture, and a monumental painting, offering a remarkable insight into the recent practice of this versatile artist. Also on view are works from Letters to Survivors, a series that gave rise to an artist's book of the same title, produced in risograph and silkscreen print in a limited edition of fifty copies.
