De Tunnel / Chababchichi calls for your name
For a month, De Tunnel will become home to a monster and lone wolf named Chababchichi. In this exhibition, performer Dengling Levine turns this creature's inner world inside out.
Toys, synthetic hair, and dolls serve in this exhibition as replicas, projections of life itself. These objects evoke both tenderness and childlike innocence, alongside a dormant sense of imperfection. It is as though reality has slipped away, leaving behind feelings of emptiness, loss, and longing. Absurdity, rawness, and sincerity take the place of an ebbed reality.
This work is a sequel to an earlier piece Dengling created around Shylulu, a character who struggles to make a home and contends with exhaustion and shyness. Chababchichi and Shylulu could be seen as neighbours to one another. They are unaware of each other's existence because of the walls that divide them. Yet they are connected through the challenges that modern life entails.
‘Chababchichi calls for your name’ is an embodiment of heartbreak and existentialism in the contemporary world.

In her work, performer dengling (鄧玲) levine explores how sincerity and absurdity dare us to open up to possibilities beyond established norms. Modern everyday life often serves as a point of departure, inspiration, and something of a collision. She embraces intuition, doubt, and imagination, weaving her own identity and experiences into her work. Employing a performative, DIY approach, she combines diverse media to generate new meanings and interactions. Through her practice, Dengling seeks to challenge both herself and the viewer to truly allow ourselves to simply be: to feel, to dream, and to be confused.
