Slewe Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Decoys, an exhibition of new work by American artist Dan Walsh. The exhibition opens on Saturday 12 April at 17:00 and runs until 17 May 2025.

Walsh, who recently had a solo exhibition at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, presents a new series of works on paper. These are monoprints made with watercolour on paper—each a unique work. Deeply versed in printmaking, Walsh developed this technique in collaboration with master printers. The result is luminous imagery rendered in pure watercolour on paper. The brushstrokes and the delicate compositional construction remain palpably visible. Exquisite in colour and execution, the works are conceived to seduce the eye. In addition, a selection of recent, self-produced artist's books will be on view.

Dan Walsh, born in 1960 in Philadelphia (US), is one of the most distinguished abstract artists working in the United States today. He participated in the Whitney Biennial in New York in 2014. He creates minimalist abstract paintings characterised by a playful approach to the making process and historical references, alongside drawings, sculptures, and books. Following his studies at Hunter College, Walsh began exhibiting his work with Paula Cooper Gallery in New York en verschillende galerieën in Europa. Since 2003, he has exhibited regularly at Galerie Slewe; this exhibition marks his sixth solo presentation at the gallery.

In 2002, his graphic work and limited-edition artist's books were the focus of a solo exhibition at the Cabinet des Estampes du Musée d’Art et d’histoire in Genève (CH). He has participated in major group exhibitions, including the Ljubljana Biennial in Slovenia and the Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2003. His work is held in internationally renowned private and public collections, such as MoMA in New York, Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht, FNAC in Paris, and the AKZO Nobel Art Foundation in Amsterdam. In 2012, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum presented a solo exhibition of his paintings, and in 2013 the Speerstra Foundation in Lausanne (CH) mounted Table of Contents, a suite of eleven paintings created especially for the occasion. In 2019, the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht staged his solo exhibition Pressing Matter, surveying his paintings, drawings, and books from the previous decade. He lives and works in Dover Plains, New York.
