El Futuro Siempre Será Brillante | Azul Ehrenberg

On Friday 15 November, the solo exhibition El Futuro Siempre Será Brillante by artist Azul Ehrenberg opens at Galerie van Fanny Freytag.

In the exhibition El Futuro Siempre Será Brillante, multidisciplinary artist Azul Ehrenberg uses the lottery ticket as a symbol of hope and illusion. She investigates the ambiguity of the lottery, which embodies both financial inequality and the attempt to escape it.

After working in Mexico for a year, she presents her photographic work printed on Mexican lottery calendars. Her fascination with paper—in this case, the texture and composition of the lottery tickets—is also evident in other work on view at Fanny Freytag: een serie van haar handgemaakt papier, blended with personal imagery. Alongside the photographic works, Ehrenberg presents the installation Portable Paradise, a collection of more than 100 found objects that each represent a personal or emotional “paradise”. She has also created sculptural pieces for the exhibition, including her interpretation of the traditional Mexican piñata. Together, the works form a playful yet confronting ensemble. They remind us of our desires and vulnerabilities, our differences and commonalities, at a time when success appears to dictate the measure of fulfilment.
