Fabric of Play
Fabric of Play
Galerie Poche’s upcoming exhibition explores materiality as both a physical and conceptual language, present in both architecture and the visual arts. It considers how surfaces, structures, and the processes of making carry meaning in and of themselves.
At the center of this new presentation is textile: not simply as material, but as a way of thinking. Weaving, layering, wrapping, enclosing. Gestures that come forth across disciplines, tracing back to ideas like philosopher Gottfried Semper’s 19th-century notion of “Bekleidung” (dressing), which located the origins of built and worn form in the same fundamental human impulse. Echoes of this thinking can be found in unexpected places. From woven textile-block construction in architecture to surfaces, patterns, and structures explored throughout the visual arts.
Craft sits at the heart of the show. We’re interested in tactility and interactivity as forms of embodied knowledge. Knowledge held in the hands of those who make.
