Folds | Lesley Foxcroft
Folds | Lesley Foxcroft
Slewe Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition Folds featuring new work by British sculptor Lesley Foxcroft. The exhibition opens during the season opening weekend on Friday 5 September and Saturday 6 September and runs until 4 October 2025.
Foxcroft is known for her works in MDF. However, she also employs other everyday materials, such as rubber, cardboard, and paper. Her use of these mundane products is an integral part of her expression as a whole: "I like the idea that the uncomplicated has a purpose: that it is not the material that gives a sculpture its value, but the artist." Through folding, cutting, pressing, and stacking, Foxcroft arranges the material on the floor and against the walls to create a dialogue between the two; her installations thus aestheticise the everyday and render the two-dimensional architectural. For her exhibition at Slewe Gallery, she will show new works made of MDF, copper, and iron.
Foxcroft, born in 1949, studied at the Camberwell School of Fine Art and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in the UK and Europe since 1974. This is her second exhibition at Slewe.
