Art Island IJmuiden

For the third time, Galerie Larik returns to Art Island, the most adventurous art fair on Forteiland near IJmuiden. In one of the catacombs, we present a solo exhibition of works by Marcel van den Berg.

Marcel van den Berg is a visual artist. Despite his formal training at the Willem de Kooningacademie and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Van den Berg embraces the aesthetics and raw energy of the street and graffiti. Inspired by Pan-Africanism, Rastafari, and Afrocentric Futurism, his work is equally steeped in Hip Hop, Reggae, Funk, Jazz, Electro, and Techno. The often political messages within the music are transformed into a potent visual language. His work is to be experienced as an intense rhythm rather than a static image. He exhibits regularly both at home and abroad, and his work is held in museum and private collections. Alongside his independent practice, he frequently initiates and curates projects at the intersection of visual art, theatre, fashion, music, and gastronomy. The total installation presented at Art Island comprises individual freestanding works. Paintings, sculptures, and works on paper are available for purchase.
