The video installation combines documentary and fiction to create a family portrait of a family that does not exist. Through interviews, carefully staged portraits and choreography, the work follows a group of strangers who gradually transform. Developed over the past year during my residency at the Lakeside Depot, the work began with a collection of discarded photobooth photographs. I imagined the lives behind these anonymous faces until they gradually became the fictional family I never had. For Family of None, I cast a group of strangers who resembled the people in those photographs and invited them to inhabit the roles of this invented family.
