Host Bodies by Finn Emmen at Galerie Lecq

Host Bodies

Finn Emmen (1999) is a Rotterdam-based artist working with film and installation. She graduated in Fine Arts from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in 2025.

Emmen finds performativity in the interactions between anonymous characters, whom she stages in intimate, isolated, sterile and silent surroundings. Host Bodies takes place in and around the house, in both interior and exterior worlds. The house and the characters seem to carry and preserve something, while also carefully keeping something out of sight. Could the invisible and unknowable evoke a sense of desire?

The characters remain nameless and undefined. What becomes visible is their presence: their body, gaze and movement. The space around them becomes unsettlingly still, a place of tension.

Through her film installations, Emmen reassembles the perspectives of her characters into spatial deconstructions of cinema. Host Bodies offers images that explore the boundary between fiction and plausibility.

Galerie Lecq is a project space in the former bridge-keeper's house on the Westzeedijk, an extension of Het Archief Artspace. The work is visible through the windows day and night. The opening is on Sunday 4 October at 15:00.
