In Search of Ghost Affects
In In Search of Ghost Affects, Laura A Dima explores the relationship between the body, technology and consent. Visitors experience the installation in pairs, holding silicone sculptures close to their bodies. The sculptures respond to subtle bodily signals, making the often unconscious exchange between people and digital systems something you can feel.
The installation guides you step by step: you begin in a quiet room, move into the central interaction space and finish in a room for reflecting on what you have just experienced. Dima starts from the idea that the body is constantly communicating with the world around it, mostly without our noticing, and by putting touch at the centre of our dealings with digital technology she asks how people, technology and their surroundings shape one another, and what consent and bodily boundaries mean there.
Dima is a multidisciplinary artist working across technology, performance and research from a technofeminist perspective, using interactive installations, tactile elements, haptic technology and soft robotics. She graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Inter-Architecture) in 2015 and recently completed a master's at the ArtScience Interfaculty of the KABK and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. The work was developed in Tetem's CORE programme.
