The pop-up exhibition Me Is Designer marks the latest chapter in Van Lieshout’s ongoing inquiry into the essence of creation. The artist has long resisted the established art world. From the inception of his career, he positioned himself as an outsider, viewing everything as a potential work of art—tools, machines, sculptures, furniture, kitchens, and even toilets. His works emerged from circumstances rather than strict blueprints, rejecting the three classical tenets of art: uniqueness, authenticity, and non-functionality.
