Mire Lee
This autumn, South Korean artist Mire Lee presents a series of new works at the Oude Kerk. Lee is renowned for her robust, mechanically moving installations, which explore themes of transience, labour, desire, corporeality, and the tension between control and the loss of control.
Her sculptures move, leak and pulsate, at times resembling almost living organisms. In 2024, she became the youngest artist to date to create an installation for Tate Modern’s renowned Turbine Hall in London. For her first major solo exhibition in the Netherlands, she draws inspiration from the Oude Kerk and its unique location in De Wallen, in the historic heart of Amsterdam.
