Op Slopershoogte

Kunstestafette consists of a series of large-scale artworks on the quay. Each work is the outcome of a duo residency, passing the baton to the next duo upon its unveiling.

Op Slopershoogte by residency duo Frank Halmans and Joost Hutjes

'The maquette' or 'architectural model' is a recurring element in the practices of both artists, Joost Hutjes and Frank Halmans. The maquette entices the viewer to step into the space, yet simultaneously repels them through the physical impossibility of doing so. The choice to take an apartment building as the subject of this collaboration stems from a shared interest: both are drawn to the concept of 'a grid' manifesting in a formal, near-abstract way. Furthermore, both artists are inspired by the figurative nature of residential scale models.
