On view from 1 November at Lumen Travo: Release, a solo exhibition by Matea Bakula.

A pollen grain carried by the wind, a prickly burdock seed clinging to a passerby, the release of an egg cell, or the discharge of hormones—the natural processes of humans, plants, and animals constitute an ongoing cycle of letting go. Yet this sacred, continuous dance always brings about a new encounter: the pollen finds another flower, the burdock seed falls onto new ground, the egg implants in the womb, and hormones find their way to receptors. Suspended between these moments is a transitory reality, where structures blur and seek a new equilibrium.

In Release, Matea Bakula explores this dynamic of cyclical processes, revealing both natural and everyday structures. In her work, she investigates how seeds, cells, and organs navigate the body and the environment, and how envelopes act as vessels that hold on and ultimately release to find a new destination.

Themes tied to the environment, society, and our existence in this world come to light in the installation composed of hundreds of spheres, crafted from hand-peeled, discarded egg cartons. This slow and meditative process allows the material itself to speak, symbolically reconnecting us with our essence of transition.
