Standing Tall, Identity on Dis-Play
Standing Tall, Identity on Dis-Play
Standing Tall, Identity on Dis-Play brings together paintings and sculptures by Raymond Cuijpers, Casper Warmoeskerken and Narouz Moltzer, curated by Abia Jansen.
In an era where images shape our daily lives, identity is less and less a fixed given and increasingly a continuous process. Through culture, values, social media, digital platforms and introspection, we ceaselessly present, edit and reinterpret ourselves. The exhibition explores its various manifestations: the public persona, the quiet observer, the symbolic object and the abstract form.
The works offer a layered reflection on representation, self-image and human presence, navigating the space between the personal and the public, authenticity and performativity, the visible and the hidden. Through urban narratives, contemplative landscapes, portraits and sculptural interventions, each artist offers a distinct perspective on how we position ourselves within contemporary life: Warmoeskerken's masked figures, Cuijpers's reflective landscapes and portraits, and Moltzer's abstract sculptural forms and paintings.
Casper Warmoeskerken paints realistic, life-sized figures inspired by hip-hop and street culture, lifted out of their original context and placed in often surreal settings. Iced-out gold jewellery and grillz become symbols of wealth, status and allure that raise questions about appearance, identity and perception, while thick impasto passages meet thin, lean areas of paint.
Standing Tall refers not merely to physical presence or self-confidence, but also to an attitude of self-definition and resilience, maintained in constant dialogue with the world around us.
