Sunday Brunch at the Lijnbaansgracht Galleries
Hosted by AKINCI, Bradwolff & Partners, Lumen Travo & m.simons
Join us for a relaxed Sunday brunch among art. Lijnbaansgracht galleries open their doors for a morning of good food and art. Take your time moving between spaces and discover what’s on show.
AKINCI: patricia kaersenhout, Poetic Justice
Starting 19 November, Poetic Justice explores how language, imagery and imagination can be both instruments of colonial power and means of healing. The title points to a justice administered not through the courts but through art: a symbolic correction to histories in which the voices of Indigenous and Black communities have been erased, distorted or appropriated. The works begin with a fundamental question: who has the right to name a world?
Bradwolff & Partners: Sanja Medić, there, again
A series of glass portrait sculptures and black-and-white collages exploring repetition, return and transformation. Three faces, a woman, a lion and a man, appear three times each, based on 3D scans of sandstone ornaments on a former Amsterdam town hall. They look the same, but are not. The familiar returns, not quite the same.
Bradwolff & Partners: Iva Gueorguieva, From 5:30 am to 7:30 am A large body of drawings made in the early morning, within a precisely defined two-hour window, while the image itself stays open. Presented as a multitude, the drawings shift attention to the space between the works: repetition and difference, movement and stillness.
Lumen Travo: Thierry Oussou, Veins of Amsterdam
Created in collaboration with GVB workers, this exhibition combines video performances, in which workers share their stories in their own voices, with paintings of the city and its inhabitants. What makes Amsterdam work, and what remains beyond our attention?
m.simons: Joost Krijnen, Solo Exhibition
The artist’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, devoted entirely to works on paper. Krijnen’s drawings seem light and playful at first glance, but unfold as carefully constructed compositions of rhythm, repetition, interruption and shift, with the artist’s hand always present.
