Timeframes

Painting without wielding a brush: Saar Scheerlings (Eindhoven, NL, 1990) presents new large-scale works at Galerie Fleur & Wouter, emerging from an intensive, patient process of folding fabric, binding, immersing in dye baths, ironing, and repeating.

It begins precise and rhythmic, but over time chance gains ground. The weave fractures: something stirs, opens up, or drifts by. Much like Saar’s other works, including her talisman sculptures, they do not merely demand a lot of time to create, they make time itself visible: in all its restlessness, stillness, wear, dullness, creativity, and possibility.

This presence lends the new works their palpable tension: on the one hand, an abstract estrangement devoid of explicit human markers, “Time is a moving image of eternity” as Plato wrote. The experience of time guides us toward the stillness of eternity.

On the other hand, every detail invites the viewer to wander, discover and imagine. Why stand still with time when you can also make it tangible? Isn’t time meant to create?

The exhibition Timeframes creates a warm, architectural and spatial experience. The monumental canvasses and standing sculptures work closely with the room’s natural light, creating an inviting and contemplative atmosphere. It is an open space full of quiet potential, inviting visitors to simply slow down, look around, and take their time.
