Uitgelicht: Luuk Huiskes

From 1 to 11 July, the Uitgelicht wall at Kunstuitleen Utrecht presents work by photographer Luuk Huiskes. The presentation forms a collage of past and recent works from his oeuvre. Luuk Huiskes has been associated with Kunstuitleen Utrecht for many years; his work is part of our collection.

Luuk Huiskes' photographs originate from photographic technique, yet in the final images he aligns more closely with the method of a painter. It is not reality itself that determines the image, but the maker's interpretation. Through subtle interventions in light, colour, and atmosphere, landscapes emerge that linger somewhere between memory, reality, and imagination.

While his earlier works often show alienating landscapes, his recent works consist more of assemblages of photographic material reminiscent of impressionist paintings. In this process, artist intelligence (not to be confused with that other familiar AI) plays an essential role: the artist's ability to observe, select, and create a world of his own.

The resulting landscapes feel like places one knows, yet exist solely within the world of Luuk Huiskes. A forest, a landscape, an atmosphere. The spirit of the place emerges and carries the image.

Following the exhibition, works by Luuk Huiskes are available for loan and purchase via Kunstuitleen Utrecht. Interest-free instalments are available.
