Workshops for Kids: Atelier Experience
Workshops for Kids: Atelier Experience
KiMu is a new museum centered around creativity and autonomy. Children and young people are invited to engage in creative research and experiments, and to make their own choices within them. KiMu hopes to inspire adults to give children and young people (more) room to shape their own story. KiMu offers the following activities:
Workshop 1 : 10.30 – 11.30
Workshop 2 : 12.00 – 13.00
Workshop 3 : 14.00 – 15.00
Workshop 4 : 15.30 – 16.30
The opening exhibition Parallel Processes. Here, work and documentation of the work process by 3 contemporary visual artists (Brian Elstak, Willem Harbers, and Roos van Haaften) and around 70 children aged 4 to 15 are on display. The artists and the children worked independently of each other, starting from a similar point of departure, but without seeing each other’s work in advance.
At 4 set times (10:30, 12:00, 14:00, and 15:30), a ‘studio experience’ begins in the large upstairs studio. Children aged 2 to 17 can engage in their own creative process here. Without an assignment, time pressure, or predetermined end result, but with a rich ‘prepared environment’ full of materials and tools. The facilitators are ready to assist—without steering or judging.
From age 3, children can independently play and experiment in the Light Studio. An exceptionally rich studio where all light phenomena can be explored: reflection, projection, mirroring, light color mixing, light refraction…
There are interactive installations throughout the museum:
For the youngest visitors (from age 0—but certainly interesting for older children as well), there are setups with sensory materials: feeling, pouring, sifting, scooping, rolling, covering…
Children aged 2 and up can water-paint and mirror-draw: magical or scientific; they get to decide for themselves.
In the Image Lab, children aged 6 and up can independently play and design with shapes in all colors. Their creations are immediately projected onto the walls.
In the large net, you can take a moment to relax with a book from the large children’s bookshelf or dream away and look at the water via the mirror.
