LEAVES
LEAVES
In the exhibition LEAVES, visual artist Milah van Zuilen approaches nature as a shared system of which we are an intrinsic part, rather than as something separate from human life. Through long-term observation, collecting, and fieldwork, her practice examines the relationship between humans and their natural environment.
During her walks, Van Zuilen may focus on a single plant species and map its distribution, collect all plant material within a defined area to make its ecological diversity visible, or work without a predetermined structure, allowing intuition to guide the process of collecting.
The resulting collages remain closely connected to the locations from which the materials were gathered. In this way, Van Zuilen’s practice brings art and ecology together, exploring how the two can continuously inform and shape one another.
