Touching (the) Strangeness
Touching (the) Strangeness
Work by artistic researcher Marloeke van der Vlugt. Marloeke is the first doctoral candidate from the Meaningful Artistic Research partnership between HKU and the Universiteit voor Humanistiek.
On 19 May, Marloeke will defend her dissertation Touching (the) Strangeness, Exploring Touching as Methodology in Artistic Research. Following the defence, her exhibition of the same name will open with a celebratory reception.
Touch as a way of being-doing-thinking
In her artistic research project, Marloeke van der Vlugt explores touch as a way of being-doing-thinking, reaching beyond physical sensation or proximity. Grounded in an interdisciplinary artistic practice, she bridges knowledge from the performing arts, visual arts, and scenography with theories from phenomenology, philosophy of art, and care studies.
About the exhibition
The exhibition presents a selection of experiments developed throughout Marloeke's research, reworked in dialogue with Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd. This gives rise to a relational, time-based, and embodied artistic practice that engages questions of care and ethics—questions awakened in the process of making, experiencing, or participating in the artwork.
Meaningful Artistic Research
Meaningful Artistic Research (MAR) unites the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU) and the Universiteit voor Humanistiek (UvH) around a shared conviction: artistic and creative making processes yield unique forms of knowledge. This knowledge is vital for envisioning and cultivating caring, just, and sustainable ways of living together.
Also open on Ascension Day, Whit Sunday, and Whit Monday.
