Memories in Cellulose
Memories in Cellulose
Memories in Cellulose invites the visitor into a workshop of co-creation, connection, and transformation, where microorganisms and humans collaborate.
It is a space to reflect on how we, as individuals, situate ourselves within local ecosystems.
In this installation, the artist has entered into a collaboration with her ecosystem by allowing analogue film to be altered by microorganisms from the artist herself and plants from her surroundings. The seemingly magical imagery that emerges is projected onto canvases of bacterial cellulose in a three-dimensional space. The creative process is also revealed through projections, living fermentation, and material research.
Memories in Cellulose prioritises co-creation over exploitation, in both creative process and material use, thereby envisioning a world where we exist in closer connection, and on equal footing, with our living environment.
