The Banquet by KIKIMARA Studio

KIKIMARA Studio was founded in 2025 by a creative duo working across spatial design, bio-art and installation, blurring architecture, organism and social space to imagine new forms of collective coexistence.

"The banquet has long been a stage for pleasure, abundance and excess. Across art and cultural history, the shared meal becomes more than nourishment: it is a ritual where appetite, intimacy, power and desire converge. From the Feast of the Gods to Dutch merry companies and scenes of oyster eaters, the table becomes a theatre of seduction. Oysters evoke aphrodisiac pleasure; fish carry masculine and feminine associations; grapes suggest intoxication, while figs and peaches evoke sexuality and fertility. A slab of ham recalls its recurring presence in taverns and brothels, where food, drink and desire intertwine."

At Galerie Lecq, history becomes another kind of public stage. Seen through the gallery's former kiosk windows, the intimate ritual of the banquet is exposed to passersby. Food becomes a metaphor, appetite becomes image, and looking becomes part of the feast. The table is never simply a table: it is a place where pleasure is performed.

The opening takes place on Saturday 5 September at 15:00.
