Entropy No. 1
Entropy No. 1
Entropy No. 1 consists of two sculptures that seem to lead a life of their own. Featuring a metal skeleton and a latex skin, the works create a tension between a technical object and something that feels almost organic. Through a mechanism, air is slowly pumped in and out of the sculptures, giving the subtle impression of breathing.
The sculptures bear the marks of time and transformation. Over time, the latex skin will discolour, begin to wrinkle, and gradually sag. Eventually, the material will no longer be able to hold the air, and the breathing will slowly cease.
The work explores impermanence and the acceptance that nothing lasts forever. Entropy No. 1 invites contemplation on the fragility of materials, objects, and life itself.
