STILL LIFE BABEL | Imogen Stidworthy
STILL LIFE BABEL | Imogen Stidworthy
AKINCI is proud to present the solo exhibition STILL LIFE BABEL by Imogen Stidworthy (b. 1963, London). Her installations combining sculpture and film are shaped by interactions between verbal and non-verbal forms of expression. These manifest through sound, the somatic, spatial relationships, and temporal dynamics. Through being with others, listening, taking part in situations, or occasionally staging them with others, Stidworthy traces diverse modes of communication between the individual and the crowd, as well as between the self and the other.
“My work attempts to capture the seeming impossibility of looking at language from the outside. It questions what happens to language and its meaning when an encounter occurs between unfamiliar or unimaginable forms of expression. What different forms and relationships to understanding emerge between languages?” Stidworthy presents new work, including the installation STILL LIFE BABEL (2025), which consists of bronze sculptures of reeds, photographs, and the film Iris [A Fragement] (2018), shown for the first time in the Netherlands.
